WINNERS AWARDED

The ARD, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, invited schools to participate in the contest, in the following three categories:

  • Category A: Five to eight years – Experiences of Ivan
  • Category B: Nine to eleven years – Experiences of Ivan, and
  • Category C: Twelve to eighteen years – Expressions of Hope.

Cash prizes were awarded as follows:

  • First Prize: $1,000 to the student and $500 to the School
  • Second Prize: $700 for the student with $300 to the School
  • Third Prize: $200 for the student and $200 to the School
  • Honourable Mention: $100 for the student and $100 to the School.

The 12 winning students, in the presence of their families, were presented with their cheques by Prime Minister Keith Mitchell at the official launch of the 2006 commemorative calendar, which features a winning drawing for each month of the year. Following are the winners:

Category A:

First:

Deryl Hamilton, Crochu RC School

Second:

Joshua Thompson, Westmoreland Primary School

Third:

Amber John, Calliste Government School

Hon. Mention:

Allina Bubb, St. Andrew’s RC School


Category B:

First:

Renata Fielden, Westmoreland Primary School

Second:

Alex Patrice, Kay-Dees School

Third:

Alana David, St. Andrew’s RC School

Hon. Mention:

Ashley Yearwood, Westmoreland Primary School


Category C:

First:

Shanna Stewart, Westmoreland Secondary School

Second:

Arielle Archibald, Westmoreland Secondary School

Third:

Ashinna Belle, Westmoreland Secondary School

Hon. Mention:

Alwin Paul, Wesley College

Cheques for the School were presented to the art instructors by Minister of Education Claris Charles. Mr. Joseph Brown received $1,900, on behalf of Westmoreland, Mrs. Lloydris Neckles received $500 on behalf of Crochu RC, Mrs. Rona Price received $300 on behalf of Kay Dees, Mr. Denroy Charles received $300 on behalf of St. Andrew’s RC, Miss Alana Charles received $200 on behalf of Calliste Government School and Ms. Crystal Kadijah James received $100 on behalf of Wesley College.
