Delivering the feature address at the launch, which took place at
the ARD Board Room, Minister Charles said the ARD Art Adventure has not
only provided an opportunity for students to express feelings and hopes
for the future, it has also provided Grenada with a beautiful calendar.
“It is in this regard, that I am very pleased to announce today that
Cabinet has approved the establishment of the ARD Patron of the Arts
Fund. The proceeds from the sale of the calendar will be deposited into
the Fund and directed for the use of the Art Programme in our Schools.”
In the presence of Prime Minister Keith Mitchell, the 12 winning
students, their families and art teachers, along with representatives
of the donor community, the diplomatic corps and the arts community,
Minister Charles reminded everyone that the accomplishments of the
young artists where achieved under the most trying circumstances.
“The drawings show how Ivan turned our world upside down and inside
out. We see fear, frustration, anger and confusion. These are the
emotions that emanated from Ivan. These are the feelings that
Grenadians experienced during and after September 7, 2004,” Minister
Charles said.
Prime Minister Mitchell commended the ARD for the initiative, noting
the importance of concentrating on the psychological rehabilitation of
Grenadians in the rebuilding process and “getting the minds of our
young people back on track.”
The Prime Minister applauded the work of the ARD in the provision of counselling and other support services to young Grenadians.
