The project is being managed by the Agency for Reconstruction and
Development Inc. (ARD) and includes replacement of the roof for the
main building, painting, electrical and plumbing repairs, as well as
refurbishment of the kitchen.
The wooden roof will be replaced by a steel structure, which is
being fabricated by Yorke Structures Co. Ltd. of Trinidad and Tobago.
The new steel roof will be supported by parameter concrete beams, while
a new timber ceiling will also be constructed.
Currently, the 75 residents are housed in the lower level of the
two-storey Home, while work is ongoing on the upper floor. The new roof
will be installed in March. It is expected that the entire Project,
which has been contracted by the ARD to Classic Design and Construction
Services Ltd., will be completed in May.
The financing for the $726,000 (EC) Project is being provided by the
Pan American Health Organisation and the Government of Grenada.
The Pan American Health Organisation also provided technical support
for the project. The decision for the construction of the steel roof
and the negotiation and final design with Yorke Structures emanated
from the advice and guidance of a PAHO contracted consultant.
